Caution should be exercised when taking substances that increase melatonin levels, such as: fluvoxamine, cimetidine, quinolones, estrogens (contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy) and 5 or 8-methoxypsoralen (5 and 8-MOP).
Caution should also be taken when taking substances that reduce melatonin levels, such as carbamazepine and rifampicin. Smoking can reduce melatonin levels.
